The curriculum

The academic curriculum at KYUEM is very demanding. On top of their core 3 or 4 A-Level subjects, students may also read an extra one or two AS Level subjects of their choice and other compulsory Key Skills subjects which may include ICT Skills, AS General Paper and the compulsory Islamic/Moral and Malaysian Studies.
Students normally take three A-Levels, although it is possible to take four. The College has three academic departments, the Department of Arts, the Department of Science and the Department of Mathematics.
The following A-Level subjects are currently offered by the Arts Department - Accounting, Economics, English Literature and History.
The Science Department is responsible for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computing and AS level Psychology.
The Mathematics Department is responsible for Mathematics and Further Mathematics.
Certain A-Level subject combinations are advisable for entry into particular disciplines at degree level. Mathematics and Physics are essential requirements for an Engineering degree. Students aiming for a career in Chemical Engineering would be strongly advised to take Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Most students find that three A-Levels provide them with more than enough work. In order to study Medicine, Chemistry is essential and Biology, Physics or Mathematics would be a logical second and third choice. On the Arts side, Accounting and Economics are clearly suitable for students who are seeking a career in business, finance or the legal profession. Both English Literature and History are highly valued by universities in the United Kingdom because they develop independent thought and sharpen critical awareness and linguistic skills.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

In 2008 two of Kolej Yayasan UEM's (KYUEM) students emerged as the world's top students. They are Serena Foong Mei Kwan and Michelle Tan Mei Yi. Serena Foong Mei Kwan top-scored in History and Michelle Tan Mei Yi in Accounting.
Most deservedly Serena Foong Mei Kwan is now pursuing a degree in Law at the University College, London and Michelle Tan Mei Yi is pursuing a degree in Economics and Management at Pembroke College, Oxford.
